Dinner at Florence’s Enoteca Fiorentina

Mullet with oven dried tomatoes and zucchini

When we are having an apartment based stay, we often eat in for dinner. But we do love to also have a dinner out and like to plan them to coincide with a full day of sightseeing so we can have a relaxing night out after being on our feet all day.

Enoteca Fiorentina was a great find! Quite often we have selected and booked ‘highlight’ dinners before we even leave home, but we came across this place whilst exploring the Santa Maria Novella neighbourhood not far from our apartment. We nipped inside to make a dinner reservation.

Enoteca Fiorentina is gorgeous inside with parquet floors, intimate tables, and wall to wall wines.

Located on Borgo Ognissanti, Enoteca Fiorentina is gorgeous inside with parquet flooring, intimate tables, and wall to wall wines as the place is a wine shop as well. We ended up returning the next day to purchase a couple of the wines we drank with our dinner.

The Menu

The menu was a choice of either a seafood or a meat three course degustation experience (55 Euros each in 2018). We opted for seafood and were so pleased we did. The food was delightful. We also chose to have the matched wines, a good option for trying new wines you are not familiar with (a further 20 Euros each).

First course was mullet with oven dried tomatoes and zucchini. It was beautifully presented with vivid green olive oil around the plate. Second was a perfectly black squid ink spaghetti with lemon, chilli and a Sicilian red prawn, which lived up to its ‘red’ name. The prawn head was standing up in the middle of the spaghetti, ready to introduce itself, or start a fight – I am not sure which, but if it was a fight, the prawn came off second best in the end. The third course was cod with pea puree and tomato. Again beautifully presented, the bright colours of the pea and tomato made it a picture of deliciousness!

Bread and olive oil was provided as part of the 6 Euro cover charge. Mike finished with a grappa and two accompanying biscotti where also provided.

We loved this place, but note that it has been renamed to Enoteca Bruni. The reviews are still very good, so it seems to have maintained its high standard for dining and a wine bar.
