Welcome to our As We Travelled blog! We both share a love of travel, and all the positive experiences that come with visiting new places. Our first overseas trip together was to Singapore for our honeymoon. Following that, we made several trips to different Asian destinations, and in 2007 had our first European adventure. It was the start of our continuing love affair with Europe.
Our Travel Style
Based on our experiences, our preferred travel style is to stay longer in each destination, and truly immerse ourselves in the location. We appreciate having time to return to sights or landmarks we loved, or visiting again when the weather or the position of the sun is different, or to see it at night.
This luxury of time means we get to see different aspects, take different photos, and discover more about the place. It also means we aren’t feeling rushed! Another huge bonus is unpacking and packing less often whilst away.
Our Travel Related Interests
We are also both ‘foodies’. We enjoy finding the perfect place to dine whilst travelling, and savouring the atmosphere of a place as well as the menu. Perfect doesn’t have to mean fancy. We’ve loved some of our trattoria meals in Italy, and street food in Budapest. Given this, you will find dining related stories on our site. We hope they whet your appetite.
The other passion we bring to this site is photography. Hubby loves to photograph architecture and street art, I love to capture landscapes, cityscapes and food. We hope you like our photos. All the photos on this site are our own.
We are Planners
Our approach to travel is to plan. Plan everything. We are not spontaneous travellers. Of course we are happy to change plans, or deviate off our chosen path on any given day, and quite often when we do, we discover something unique. But we are not comfortable arriving at an airport and then deciding where to stay, and ‘playing it by ear’ from there. The planning aspects are part of the fun for us in the lead up to a trip.
Our planning includes researching via a number of resources to select flights, accommodation and potential dining options for a special lunch or dinner. We typically book everything directly with providers ourselves. Quite often this is how you get the best deals, and it enables us to start building a relationship with our future host or hostess.
