Breakfast at Coast, Adelaide

You won’t be surprised to learn that Coast is a dining venue on the seafront, located in the Pier Hotel, Glenelg.  On the day we visited (February 2022), the weather was perfect, sunny, and not too hot. We had requested an outside table, and were lucky enough to secure one. The outside tables are located on a terrace on the beach-facing side of the restaurant, and are in the shade during the morning making it a very comfortable spot to dine.

The inside of Coast is also inviting with an relaxing blend of cool colours and light coloured wooden tables. There is a choice of normal height tables or higher bar style tables with stools. The tables located along the window give a great view out to the water, and are even better when the windows are opened.

Any decent breakfast must have a good coffee to accompany it. Coast’s coffees, we’ve had cappuccinos and café lattes, are good.

What’s On The Menu

The breakfast menu is concise, but does have the option to have eggs poached, scrambled or fried on toast, and then add on extras from a good range of options. On our first visit, we both opted for scrambled eggs, and added a hashbrown and bacon (both of us), mushrooms (me), and spinach (Michael).  On a second visit, we had poached eggs, and also tried the mushroom and tomato options.

We were both happy with our choices. The food was warm to hot, and the portion size met our expectations. We’d describe breakfast here as a comfortable, solid option, with the location being the key drawcard for choosing Coast. It was the beautiful view of the beach that made the experience such a positive one.  I’ve since been with my sister, and she also agreed it was a good choice.

Certainly Coast is worth a visit for breakfast or brunch, and request outdoor seating if the weather looks to be suitable. Bear in mind that it will be sunny in the afternoons, though the umbrellas are adjustable.

We will return, as the food is good and the view is the highlight. If you are in Adelaide, you can catch a tram directly to Glenelg from the Adelaide CBD which takes around 30 minutes. From the Glenelg tram stop it is a 5 minute walk to Coast.
